My Cozy Porch

I wanted to create a space I can come to relax and have my quite time. A mom of two boys who are 5 and 6 years old and a puppy can get pretty hectic and loud in my house.

Couple years ago, Kevin and I redid our porch. It was wood, but it was not in good shape. Yes, we could have replaced it with wood again, but it would have been more expensive to replace and rots often because of weather wear and water from watering plants. So, we decide to go with Azek Harvest PVC deck boards in the color “Slate Gray”.  Azek is capped polymer deck boards with Alloy Armour Technology contain no wood and feature superior surface protection from stains, mold, and mildew (Lowe’s Description).  It’s nice, I won’t have to worry about sanding, staining and sealing again because it can be costly and time consuming. The project only took a week to be complete.

After the porch flooring was done, I ordered some outdoor couches from Menards. Menards has some cute patio sets; you should definitely check them out if you’re in the market for a new patio set. I know patio sets can be expensive, if you are looking at Menards, they have sales on everything which includes a 11% off rebate. Great way to save some money.

After I got my couches, it was time for the fun part, the details! I ordered some outdoor pillows and a rug from Target. I got flowers and flowerpots from Lowe’s to complete the look.–34-x18–34–woven-striped-square-throw-pillow-blue—threshold–8482-/-/A-80181665

I love coming out to my porch now. I enjoy a cup of coffee/tea or a glass of wine on my porch and listen to the birds. It’s very peaceful! I love having conversations with my husband, family and friends there. Holidays will be fun to decorate the porch especially for 4th of July, Halloween and Christmas.–39-1–34-x3–39-2–34–woven-indoor-outdoor-rug-with-fringe-linen—threshold–8482–designed-with-studio-mcgee/-/A-80178933

My Living Room Make Over

My living room is done! Well, for now. Ha

This house journey started about 7 years ago, every Sunday when Kevin and I would grab some coffees from Starbucks, we would drive around searching for open houses to check out. After, a year of searching, we decided to look at houses in the country and that’s where we found our home.

Our home isn’t that old. It was built in 2006 but it was lacking a lot of character. I really wasn’t sure how I wanted to style it. Well, that year Kevin and I got married and in February, I found out I was pregnant with our first son, and 17 months later I found out I was pregnant again with our second son. I was busy with two little ones and the only thing on my mind was sleep. Now, that my boys are older, it was time to get work. I was confused on my style because I love a lot of different styles. Yes, I live in the country but I didn’t want to make my house too country but I definitely wanted it to feel old like a country home. I really paid attention to my clothes, colors and patterns that I like, to figure my style.

When I found this quote on Pinterest, it really spoke to me. I started collecting things I love so I can design my living room . I wanted my house to feel old but yet modern. So, my first step was to change the flooring. My flooring was a light oak color. I wasn’t a fan. It didn’t go with any of my furniture, artwork and not the look I was going for.

First, I started by staining my banister and fire mantel. I used General Finishes gel stain in the color, Antique Walnut. I love this stain because you don’t need to sand so much. You can sand lightly and stain on existing stain. Gel stain is really a-game changer. It will save you some time and frustration.

Second, I got quotes from a few companies to do my flooring project. The color I used was “hearthstone shadow”. It has a golden and red undertone. Definitely not a color I was looking at first but it matched my banister and fire mantle, perfect! The color of the wood definitely made it my house feel old.

Also, we painted the living room with Sherwin Williams, in the color “Amazing gray.” The fireplace is the main focus, the gray really makes it pop.

Now, my flooring project done, new paint job and I been collecting things I love. I feel like the mood of my house has change. I love how it feels more old and charming.
